Lazy Côte D’Azur | St. Raphaël, France | Travel Diaries

October 20, 2011

The south of France is the best place in the world to get sick. It may seem like the worst because, really, who wants to be bed-ridden when there is beautiful warm weather and scenery happening outside? But based on the numerous places I’ve been sick in the world, I maintain that the south of France is the best for one simple reason: it doesn’t make you feel guilty for doing absolutely nothing.

The Côte D’Azur actually seems to be designed for laziness. Hoardes of French people come down south for the month of August to soak up the heat, swim in the sea, eat seafood in local restaurants and make something out of doing nothing. Spending a week here, unable to do anything but rest (on the beach) and recuperate (while swimming in the Mediterannean Sea) and eat healthy (sun-soaked tomatoes and olives from the garden), makes me think that I truly could not have picked a better place to be sick.
